Metro St. Louis Website

A Simple(r) Route Alert Component

The Problem

Regular transit riders voiced many a complaint about the current way we communicate rider alerts on the website.

🧐
How did we know this? One of my favorite aspects of working at Metro was that the entire organization fully embraced research and data driven decisions. They routinely engaged in rider surveys, onto which I was able to piggy back and ask website usability questions.

Research & Exploration

Users complained of the “wall of text” they were met with upon drilling down into a specific route alert. The alert text was cumbersome and difficult to wade through.

I explored a solution that distilled the lengthy text alert into a visual transit-line inspired ui that be easily understood at a glance.

Solution

With the underlying design decisions validated, I implemented a solution that fit within the existing design system/guidelines of the website.
